The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) is offering the Discretionary Grants Bursary for the 2025 - 2026 academic year, providing essential financial assistance to individuals passionate about the local government sector. This initiative aims to develop skilled professionals who will contribute to improving service delivery and support functions within local municipalities.

Who Can Apply for the LGSETA Bursary?

The LGSETA Bursary is open to South African citizens and permanent residents who are eager to pursue studies aligned with local government priorities. Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:

Applicants must be enrolled at a University, University of Technology, or TVET College in an NATED program. Grade 12 learners who have been accepted into a higher learning institution for the 2025 - 2026 academic year are also eligible to apply. The bursary supports students who are accepted or provisionally accepted for courses that are relevant to the local government sector. Preference will be given to those studying fields aligned with local government priority occupations, municipal service delivery areas, and support functions. How to Apply for the LGSETA Bursary

To apply for the LGSETA Discretionary Grants Bursary, visit the LGSETA website and navigate to the Services tab. Select DG Bursary under the Learners section, then click on the link for the 2024-2025 bursary application. Complete the online application form and upload all the required supporting documents as per the instructions provided.

Important Submission Information

Each bursary application must be submitted individually through the LGSETA Microsoft Forms system. Applications submitted via email or hand-delivered will not be accepted. The application window officially opens on 3 November 2025 at 8:00 AM and closes on 30 November 2025 at 11:59 PM. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Additional Notes

All bursary applications are subject to LGSETA’s approval, funding criteria, and policies. The allocation of bursaries is dependent on funding availability, and LGSETA reserves the right to cancel the funding window if necessary. If an applicant does not receive a response within three months of applying, their application should be considered unsuccessful.
