The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) is offering bursary opportunities to South African students who require financial assistance to pursue their studies at public Higher Education Institutions in South Africa. This programme is designed to support talented young South Africans committed to advancing their education in critical engineering and technology fields, ensuring they have the resources needed to succeed.

Who Can Apply for the PRASA Bursary?

Age Requirement – Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old.

Admission Status – Candidates must be accepted for the 2025 academic year or currently registered at a public Higher Education Institution (HEI) in South Africa, recognized by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

Field of Study – Applicants must be pursuing one of the following qualifications:

Bachelor of Science (Engineering) or National Diploma (Bachelor of Technology or S4 Diploma).

Eligible Fields of Study

Electrical Engineering (Heavy or Light Current), Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Industrial Engineering, Quantity Surveying.

Academic Requirements

Current Students (2025 or Prior) – Applicants must have a minimum academic average of 60% (C symbol) across previous years of study.

Additional Selection Preferences

Preference will be given to students who:

Demonstrate outstanding academic performance.

Are orphans or come from child-headed families.

Possess a valid South African identification document.

Required Documentation for PRASA Bursary Application

Proof of Acceptance – Official acceptance letter from the Higher Education Institution (must be on the institution’s official letterhead).

Academic RecordsFinal examination results and academic transcripts for students currently enrolled.

Recommendation Letter – A commendation letter from a community leader, school principal, or lecturer, supporting the applicant’s character and conduct.
