Pharmacy Postgraduate Bursaries

Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa
Open

The Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) invites eligible South African students to apply for its prestigious PSSA Pharmacy Bursary for the 2026 academic year. This bursary provides financial support to both undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing careers in pharmacy at recognized institutions. With a strong focus on academic performance and financial need, the PSSA bursary aims to help future pharmacists achieve their educational goals.

Undergraduate Pharmacy Bursary – Who Qualifies?

The PSSA undergraduate bursary is designed for Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) students who meet the eligibility criteria. To qualify, applicants must be South African citizens who have completed Matric and are enrolled full-time in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of BPharm studies. First-year students are not eligible to apply.

Academic performance is a key selection factor, with applicants required to have a minimum overall average of 60% at mid-year and a proven financial need, with a household income of R130,000 or less per annum before tax. Additionally, students must be registered PSSA student members and have passed all previous subjects and modules in their course.

Applications for the PSSA undergraduate bursary are currently closed and will reopen in June 2025. Selection is based on financial need, academic excellence, and any other financial assistance received.

Postgraduate Pharmacy Bursary – Funding for Master’s and Doctoral Students

The PSSA postgraduate bursary is available to students pursuing a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Pharmacy at an accredited South African tertiary institution. To be eligible, applicants must be South African citizens who have completed Matric and an undergraduate qualification in Pharmacy. They must also be registered PSSA student members and agree to the bursary's terms and conditions.

Selection for the postgraduate bursary is based on academic potential and project viability (60%) and financial need (40%). This ensures that students conducting impactful pharmacy research receive the financial support they need to excel. The application deadline is 4 May 2025, making it essential for eligible students to apply on time.

Application Requirements – Documents Needed for Submission

To complete the PSSA bursary application, students must submit a certified copy of their South African ID document, a certified full academic transcript, and a motivational letter from a pharmacy lecturer. Additionally, applicants must provide a financial declaration with proof of household income, demonstrating their financial need.
