Sanlam Actuarial Bursary Programme

As part of our commitment to developing top actuarial talent, we provide financial support to deserving students pursuing Actuarial Science. Our bursary is open to:

  • Matriculants enrolling for Actuarial Science in 2026.
  • Current full-time Actuarial Science students in their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of study.

Who Should Apply?

Undergraduate Students (Current University Students)

We are looking for South African citizens currently enrolled in Actuarial Science who demonstrate strong academic ability and determination to succeed. If you are a full-time student in your 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year, you may be eligible for this opportunity.

Grade 12 Learners (School Leavers for 2026 Intake)

If you excel in Mathematics, enjoy solving complex problems, and are disciplined in your studies, you could be a great fit for our bursary. Applicants must have:

  • A minimum of 90% in Mathematics.
  • An overall A aggregate in Grade 11 and 12 results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

For Current Undergraduate Actuarial Students

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Full academic transcript.
  • Proof of university registration and/or fee statement.
  • Copy of Matric certificate.
  • Certified copy of South African ID.
  • A detailed CV highlighting academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and leadership roles.
  • A personal motivation letter answering:
    • What does an actuary do?
    • Why do you want to study Actuarial Science?
    • What qualities make you a strong candidate for this profession?
    • Why should Sanlam award you a bursary?
    • If actuarial science does not work out, what alternative career paths would you consider?

For Grade 12 Learners Applying for 2026 Intake

Applicants must submit:

  • Final Grade 11 results (2024).
  • Mid-year Grade 12 results (2025).
  • National Benchmark Test (NBT) results (if available).
  • Final Grade 12 results (may be considered for final selection).
  • Certified copy of South African ID.
  • A well-structured CV showcasing academic performance, leadership roles, and extracurricular involvement.
  • A motivation letter addressing the same key questions listed above for undergraduate students.
