Astron Energy
Astron Energy invites South African students to apply for its Special Skills Bursary program for the 2025 academic year. This unique bursary supports undergraduate students in critical fields, offering financial support and additional resources to promote academic and career success.
Eligible Fields for Astron Energy Special Skills Bursary
The bursary is open to students studying in the following academic streams:
Commerce Stream Degrees
Bursaries are awarded to students in Commerce fields, especially those in Project Management, Business Administration, Property Studies, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Digital Marketing, and Human Resources Management. BCom degrees are preferred for applicants.
Data Analysis and IT Stream Degrees
Students in Data Analysis and IT fields are eligible, including those pursuing Mathematical Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, and Big Data Analytics.
Engineering Stream Degrees
Engineering students specializing in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering can apply. Accepted degrees include BSc or BEng programs (BEng Tech programs are not eligible).
Environmental Stream Degrees
Bursaries are offered to students in Environmental Studies fields, including Environment and Sustainability, Climate Change, and Sustainable Development.
Finance Stream Degrees
Students in Finance fields, including Accounting, Financial Modeling, Internal Auditing, and Economics, are eligible. Commerce degrees are preferred for finance applicants.
Science Stream Degrees
Science students in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Natural Sciences (with a focus on Mathematics) are also encouraged to apply. Only BSc programs are eligible.
Benefits of the Astron Energy Bursary
The Astron Energy Bursary provides comprehensive financial and developmental support for successful applicants. Coverage includes:

- Meals allowance
- Monthly stipend for personal expenses
Additionally, bursary recipients will gain:
- Psycho-social support through Excel@Uni

- Academic support, including private tutoring and access to a Work Readiness Program
Work-Back Requirement
Astron Energy bursary recipients are required to "work back" each year of funding through employment with Astron Energy after graduation.
Eligibility Criteria for Astron Energy Bursary
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to qualify for the bursary:
- Must be a South African citizen under the age of 35
- Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Must be studying or planning to study full-time in one of the listed fields
- Studying toward their qualification level for the first time (no repeat degrees)
- Enrolled at a registered higher education institution in South Africa, including private/community colleges and TVETs
- Achieved a minimum overall average of 70% in the last full academic year
- Not employed full-time
