Dept of Cooperative Governance
The Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG) through the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) seeks to fund students studying or intend pursuing an undergraduate/ post-graduate/ masters full programme in Disaster Risk Management, Disaster Risk Studies or Fire Services Technology qualification (excluding Certificate courses and Ph.D. qualifications) at a recognised Public Higher Institution of South Africa and hereby invites applications for the 2024 academic year.
Requirements:
- Be a South African citizens;
- Have been accepted/ registered/ applied for an Undergraduate/ Post-graduate/ Masters full programme in: Disaster Risk Management, Disaster Risk Studies or Fire Services Technology qualification at a recognised Public Higher Institution of South Africa;
NB. Applications for Certificate courses or Ph.D. qualifications will NOT be considered for this funding.
The Bursary Programme will cover the following:
- 100% tuition fees, including registration and research allowance. Research allowances are capped at R11 000.00.
Eligibility Criteria:
Undergraduate/Postgraduate Applicants:
- Brief Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages)
- National Senior Certificate:
- Undergraduate applicants must attach a National Senior Certificate with an average of 60% and above;
- Post-graduate applicants must attach latest qualification at a recognised Higher Institution of South Africa with an average of 60% and above;
- Enrolled applicants must attach their 2023 mid-year academic transcript with an average of 60% and above;
- Proof of acceptance/registration/application for a full program in the mentioned qualifications
- Certified copy of a valid South African ID
- Proof of household income (Unemployed applicants: < R350,000 per annum or zero-household income / Employed applicants: < R350,000 per annum)
- Employed applicants must provide proof of income.
Masters Qualification Applicants:
- Brief Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages)
- National Senior Certificate
- Latest qualification at a recognised Higher Institution of South Africa with an average of 65% and above;
- Enrolled applicants must attach their 2023 mid-year academic transcript with an average of 65% and above;
- Proof of application/acceptance/registration for a full program in the specified qualifications
- Certified copy of a valid South African ID
- 1-2 page concept note of proposed Masters research on one of the 16 Priority Thematic Areas (i.e., outlining the Research Topic, Background/ Introduction, Research Problem, Research Objectives & Methods): A guideline on the thematic areas is available on the Bursary application system.
