The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme supports students to complete a teaching degree in South Africa. Recipients are required to teach at public schools for the duration of the bursary received.

Application Guidelines

- Not eligible: Applicants with criminal records, HEI employees and families, and those with existing teaching qualifications.
Eligible Qualifications
- Undergraduate: 4-year Bachelor of Education (B Ed) specializing in various phases.
- Graduate: 1-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with priority in specific subjects.
Priority Areas
- Foundation Phase (Grades R-3) – Preference for African Languages.
- Intermediate and Senior Phase (Grades 4-9) – Preference for Languages, Mathematics, Natural Science & Technology.
- FET Phase (Grades 10-12) – Preference for subjects like Accounting, Agricultural Sciences, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, etc.
