HCI Foundation Bursaries 2025
HCI Foundation
The HCI Foundation invites students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2025 academic year. This programme aims to support students in pursuing their studies at selected South African universities.
Bursaries Offered
- New Bursary Applicants: For Honours and Postgraduate Diploma studies at selected universities.
- Current HCI Bursary Recipients: For continuing undergraduate studies at a public university or university of technology in South Africa.

Bursary Coverage
The HCI Foundation will award partial bursaries, covering up to 75% of tuition fees (maximum of R40,000 per annum). Payments will be made directly into the student’s fee account at their institution, around July each year.
Recipient Expectations
Bursary recipients are not required to pay back or work back the bursary. However, they are expected to:
- Engage in community projects.
- Participate in tutoring and mentoring programmes.
- Volunteer within their community.
- Complete surveys and attend workshops throughout the year, and after graduation.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen, refugee, or asylum seeker.
- Must be 35 years old or younger on the application closing date (30 September 2024).
- Current HCI Bursary Recipients: Must be continuing studies towards an undergraduate qualification at a recognised public university or university of technology in South Africa.
- New HCI Bursary Applicants: Must be studying towards an Honours or Postgraduate Diploma at one of the participating universities.
- Must be studying on a full-time basis (part-time or distance studies are not funded).
- Must not be studying at a TVET College.
- Must have a gross family income of less than R38,000 per month.
- Must not be receiving a full-cost bursary or a large partial bursary from another source (partial bursaries, NSFAS, or other loans are acceptable).
