IDC Bursary Description: The IDC Bursary supports eligible unemployed South African citizens with financial needs and strong academic performance. Applicants must study or intend to study full-time in the following fields:
Fields of Study:
- Business & Management: Accounting (CA), Internal Audit, Cost and Management Accounting, Financial Management, Information Systems, Investment Management, Quantitative Risk Management, Transport or Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, Entrepreneurship, Quantitative Finance, Economics, Econometrics, Business Management
- Engineering: Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy Engineering, Civil/Construction Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, Geology, Quantity Survey
- Law: Commercial Law (BCom Law, LLB), Diploma in Law Studies, Postgraduate Diploma in Law
- Science & Technology: Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Physics, Agricultural Studies, Mathematics or Statistics, Actuarial Science or Data Science, Computer Science, Analytical Chemistry
Bursary Details:
- Open to first qualification undergraduate studies only; no funding for second qualifications or postgraduate studies except in Finance, Accounting, and Law.
- Applicants must be South African citizens under 26 years old.
- Preference given to applicants from Quintile 1, 2 & 3 schools (rural and previously disadvantaged communities).
- Household income of up to R600,000 p/a.
- Weighted selection criteria includes disability status, minimum APS requirements (75% for matriculants, 65% for current tertiary students), and admission to a South African public university, university of technology, or TVET college.
Required Documents:
- Recently certified copy of ID (not older than 6 months).
- 2024 mid-year (first semester) results or latest results (if not studying this year).
- Recently certified copy of Grade 11 results or current year’s Grade 12 June results.
- Provisional acceptance/admission letter from the institution.
- Recently certified copies of both parents' IDs (not older than 6 months).
- Birth certificate (if surname differs).
- Proof of household income: pay slips, bank statements (3 months), affidavits, SASSA letters, death certificates (if applicable), divorce certificates or sworn statements (if parents are separated).
Bursary Coverage:
- Full tuition fees.
- On-campus accommodation and meals (institution rates).
- Capped amounts for off-campus university-accredited accommodation, self-catering meal allowance, and transport allowance.
- Laptop (once-off).
