Meat Industry Trust (MIT) invites eligible South African students to submit applications for the 2024 Bursary Programme. The MIT Bursary aims to advance scientific research in the South African red meat industry.
It supports postgraduate students conducting research related to various aspects of red meat production, manufacturing, marketing, health, genetics, and socio-economic elements.
Your Study must be related to one or more of the following FIELDS:
- Genetices / Genomics / Breeding
- Production / Management
- Reproduction
- Health / Bio-Security / Welfare
- Nutrition
- Rangeland / Pasture
- Environment
- Economics / Marketing
- Slaughter / Carcass
- Hygiene / Product Safety & quality
- Consumer Health & Acceptance
- or any other field related to the red meat industry
Eligibility Requirements:
- Field of Study: Postgraduate studies (Master’s or Doctorate degree)
- Research Focus: Red Meat Species (Cattle, Sheep or Goats)
- Areas of Study: Multiple fields related to the red meat industry
- South African citizenship is mandatory.
- Applicants must be eligible for a Master’s or Doctorate degree in a relevant field of study.
- Candidates must be enrolled full-time at a recognized South African tertiary institution.
- Master’s degree applicants require a relevant Bachelor’s degree; Doctorate degree applicants must hold a Master’s degree.
- Applicants must not be employed during the bursary period.
What the bursary offers:
- Bursary Value: R60,000 per annum
- Payment Structure: Two instalments per year, over 2-3 years depending on degree pursued
Criteria for Awarding the Bursary:
Candidates will be assessed based on three main criteria:
- Academic Record
- Quality of the Project Proposal
- Potential Contribution to the Red Meat Industry
Bursary Terms:
- Bursary recipients are expected to submit annual reports during their studies and a final report upon completion.
- Renewal is contingent on satisfactory academic performance and re-registration at the tertiary institution.
