Nedbank External Bursary Programme Description: At Nedbank, we are committed to using our financial expertise to support young leaders in pursuing their academic aspirations. The External Bursary Programme aims to fund academically deserving South African students who lack the financial means to study full-time for their first Undergraduate or Honours qualification at a South African public University or University of Technology.
Programme Focus: The bursary programme aims to address South Africa's scarce-skills shortages, with a specific focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and Green Economy skills. Green economy skills involve enhancing economic, environmental, and social well-being by reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities, such as carbon emissions and pollution, while promoting energy efficiency and natural capital.
Selection Criteria:
- Open to South African citizens only.
- Demonstrated financial need based on household income.
- Minimum academic results:
- A minimum average of 65% in the applicable academic year (e.g., Grade 12 or university level).
- A minimum average of 65% in subjects relevant to the intended degree.
- Applicants who completed Grade 12 or Senior Certificate with Mathematics Literacy will not be considered.
- Admission to a South African public university or university of technology for the intended Undergraduate or Honours qualification.
Supporting Documents Required:
- Certified copy of South African identity document.
- Academic transcripts:
- Grade 11 and mid-year results (if applicable).
- Grade 12 final results and mid-year results (if in first year at university).
- Previous academic year results and current mid-year results (if currently at university).
- Financial checks affidavit signed by both applicant and parent(s) or guardian(s).
Application Process:

- Applications will be screened and shortlisted based on the criteria mentioned above.
Required Supporting Documents for Shortlisted Applicants: Parents, legal guardians, and all income-earning members of the applicant's household must provide:
- Consent for sharing personal information for income verification (Financial Checks Affidavit).
- Completed income and expenditure statement for the household.
- Certified copies of various documents, including identity documents, recent payslips, proof of income, and bank statements.
Screening Process: Shortlisted applicants will undergo psychometric assessments, other evaluations, and a virtual interview as part of the selection process.
Discretionary Award: Bursaries will be awarded at the sole discretion of the Nedbank Educational Trust.
