NFVF Bursary Programme for 2025
Overview: The National Film & Video Foundation (NFVF) is a statutory body dedicated to the growth and development of the South African film and video industry. The NFVF’s bursary program aims to develop skills for individuals aspiring to enter the Film & TV industry by supporting their full-time studies at accredited South African tertiary institutions.
Eligibility:
- South African citizens
- Completed and passed matric
- Good academic record
- Demonstrate financial need
- Registered or provisionally registered for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in Film or TV disciplines at an accredited South African tertiary institution
Compulsory Requirements:
- Complete the online application form
- Letter of acceptance or acknowledgment from the institution
- One-page letter of motivation for tuition funding
- Certified ID copy (dated within six months)
- Certified matric certificate or latest academic results (dated within six months)
- Commitment letter for a bursary or loan from other sponsors/bank, if applicable
- Breakdown of total annual academic fees from the institution
- Certified copy of Senior Certificate (dated within six months)
Additional Requirements for Minors or Unemployed Applicants:
- Affidavit stating the known/unknown whereabouts of absent parent/s
- Proof of social grant, if applicable
- Parents/guardian/partner’s proof of income (latest payslip, bank statement, or IRP form)
- Certified copy of the death certificate of the deceased parent/s (dated within six months)
Additional Requirements for Applicants Older Than 21:
- Proof of financial need (latest payslip, bank statement, or IRP form)
Selection Criteria:
- Financial need: Combined parental/guardian income less than R600,000 per annum
- Academic performance: Minimum 60% aggregate and sufficient pass rate to proceed to the next year of study
- Motivation: Detailed explanation of career aspirations and study relevance
- Demographics: Consideration of gender, race, disability, and home province
- Developmental mandate adherence: Transformation considerations applied for gender, demographics, race, disability, and provincial location
Qualifying Expenses (with required documentation):
- Full tuition fees (institution’s letterhead)
- Accommodation and meals (proforma invoices/supporting documents on institution or supplier letterhead)
- Other resources (textbook, computer, software) – (proforma invoices/supporting documents on institution or supplier letterhead)
Disclaimer:
- Accommodation, meals, and additional resources funding capped at R50,000 per annum, for first-year students only. The funding is a basic contribution towards overall costs, covered per semester for accommodation and meal allowance, while textbook cost allocation depends on course requirements.
Non-Qualifying Expenses:
- Travel expenses
Exclusions:
- Courses in performing arts, acting, music, dancing, or any other category not related to Film and TV
