SIOC Community Development Trust
The SIOC Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) is now accepting bursary applications for the 2025 academic year. This bursary supports students across all fields of study, with a preference for the fields listed below.
Preferred Fields of Study
While bursaries are open to all fields, applicants in the following areas are highly encouraged to apply:
- Agriculture: Veterinarian, Livestock Product Analyst, Environmental Officer, Agricultural Economist, Agricultural Engineer, Food Technologist, Food Technician
- Business Management and Economics: Accounting, Economics, Auditing, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Project Management
- Education: BEd FET Mathematics, Physical Science, Natural Sciences, Foundation Phase, Language, Special Needs
- Engineering and Science: Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Geology, Electrical Engineering, Town Planning, Environmental Health
- Health and Clinical Sciences: Medicine (MBChB), Pharmacy, Dentistry, Advanced EMS, Nursing, Biochemistry, Medical Lab Sciences
- Information Technology: Computer Science, Software Development, Data Science, Web Design and Development
- Law: LLB
- Tourism: Hospitality Management, Arts and Culture Heritage, Ecotourism Management
Bursary Coverage
The SIOC-CDT bursary provides comprehensive financial support, covering:
- Registration and tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Prescribed study materials
- Laptop and a monthly stipend
- Assistive devices for students with disabilities
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- South African citizen, aged 35 or younger at the time of application
- Reside in or originate from a SIOC-CDT beneficiary community:
- Gamagara Local Municipality (Northern Cape)
- Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality (Northern Cape)
- Tsantsabane Local Municipality (Northern Cape)
- Joe Morolong Local Municipality (Northern Cape)
- Thabazimbi Local Municipality (Limpopo)
- Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Enrolled or intend to enroll part-time or full-time in 2025 for an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in the preferred fields listed (other fields may also be considered)
- Minimum overall average of 65% in the most recent academic results
- Financial need with a household income of R600,000 or less per year
- Students with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply
