Sasol invites students to apply for the 2024 Bursary Programme.

Fields of study:

Bursaries will be awarded to students residing in municipalities in Mpumalanga and the Free State, for studies within the following fields:

  • Electronic Engineering (BEng / BSc)
  • Electrical Engineering (BEng / BSc)
  • Geology (BEng / BSc)
  • Industrial Engineering (BEng / BSc)
  • Mechanical Engineering (BEng / BSc)
  • Mining Engineering (BEng / BSc)
  • Mine Surveying (BEng Tech)

Bursaries will be awarded on condition that students maintain their academic results and their year end results do not differ substantially from results submitted during the application process (Matric results if currently in Matric or final year University results if currently in University).

The bursary has a work-back / pay-back obligation.

Requirements:

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • You must be a South African citizen (by birth only)
  • You must have completed Matric OR be currently in Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full-time, towards one of the undergraduate qualifications listed above
  • You must be entering your 1st or 2nd year of study in 2024
  • You must be studying or intend on studying at a recognised and accredited University in South Africa (or University of Technology if studying towards a Mine Surveying qualification) (the bursary will NOT cover studies at UNISA)
  • You must be registered for the degree course over the minimum study period and/or able to still complete studies in that minimum period, if currently studying (the bursary will NOT cover students who are on an extended study period or have added a year to the minimum study period, or students planning to register for an extended degree course)

BEng, BSc and Geology students: you must have achieved the following minimum academic results:

  • Level 6 (70 – 79%) for Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy)
  • Level 6 (70 – 79%) for Physical Science
  • Level 5 (60 – 69%) for English First Additional language OR Level 5 (60 – 69%) for English home language OR Level 4 (50 – 59%) for English Second Additional language

Mine Surveying students: you must have achieved the following minimum academic results:

  • Level 5 (60 – 69%) for Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy)
  • Level 5 (60 – 69%) for Physical Science
  • Level 5 (60 – 69%) for English First Additional language OR Level 5 (60 – 69%) for English home
  • language OR Level 4 (50 – 59%) for English Second Additional language

Geology students: you must intend on completing an Honours degree


You must reside in one of the following Sasol Mining Fenceline communities:

  • Mpumalanga – Gert Sibande District – Secunda Fenceline:
  1. Govan Mbeki Municipality (Bethal, Brendan Village, Davel, eMbalenhle, eMzinoni (Bethal), Evander, Kinross, Leandra, Legogang, Leslie, Secunda, Trichardt)
  2. Lekwa Local Municipality (Holmdene, Morgenzon, Standerton)
  3. Dipaleseng Local Municipality (Balfour, Greylingstad, Grootvlei, Siyathemba, Val)
  4. eMalahleni (Ga-Nala, Kriel, Ogies, Rietspruit, Thubelihle, van Dyksdrift, Wilge)
  • Fezile Dabi District (Free State) – Sasolburg Fenceline:
  1. Metsimaholo Local Municipality (Deneysvilles, Oranjeville, Sasolburg, Tshepiso, Vaalpark, Zamdela)
  2. Ngwathe Local Municipality (Edenbille, Galeshewe, Heilbron, Koppies, Kwakwatsi, Parys)
